Police: Nguyen killed after car reverses into wall in San Jose

SAN JOSE, CA, (April 11, 2026) — A tragic incident in San Jose early Saturday morning claimed the life of 79-year-old Tuyep Nhung Thi Nguyen after a vehicle reportedly accelerated in reverse and crashed into a concrete wall.

According to investigators, the crash occurred shortly after 7 a.m. along North Ninth Street just north of East Santa Clara Street. Authorities said the driver of a 2010 Toyota was attempting to park when the vehicle was accidentally shifted into reverse and traveled at a high rate of speed before leaving the roadway and striking a wall.

Nguyen, a passenger in the vehicle, was critically injured and transported to a hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries. The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with officials. The investigation is ongoing.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Several factors are to blame for the surge in traffic fatalities, but at the heart of it is driver behavior—including speeding, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and distracted driving, especially due to cellphone use. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has reported that 8,055 lives were lost in motor vehicle collisions during the first quarter of 2025.

While authorities continue to examine the cause and liability in this case, Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal, emphasized the importance of an independent investigation conducted by an experienced attorney.

“In addition to the work carried out by law enforcement, an attorney can revisit key witness statements, review surveillance footage from the crash scene, and obtain phone and text records of the responsible party,” said Bond, a national analyst for Accident Injury News.

Time remains critical in cases like this, and it is essential that a victim’s family ensures all evidence is preserved and analyzed promptly.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the family members of Tuyep Nhung Thi Nguyen may be entitled to a wrongful death claim. Family members of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a catastrophic accident.

“We recognize that the loss of a loved one brings both emotional suffering and financial hardship,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel with Bond Legal.

“If a fatal incident results from another party’s negligence, families are encouraged to seek legal guidance to pursue justice and rightful compensation.”
