Nelson Graves dies in motorcycle collision with truck in NC

STALLINGS, NC, (April 08, 2026) – A motorcyclist was killed Wednesday evening in a crash involving a pickup truck in Stallings, authorities said.

The victim, identified as Nelson Lee Graves, was riding a Harley-Davidson motorcycle through the intersection of Stallings Road and Guion Lane around 6:30 p.m. when a Toyota Tacoma reportedly entered against a red light and struck him.

Bystanders immediately began CPR before emergency crews arrived and continued life-saving efforts. Despite these measures, Graves succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The driver of the Tacoma remained at the location and cooperated with investigators. No signs of impairment were reported.

MOTORCYCLE CRASH INVESTIGATION

In 2023, U.S. motorcycle fatalities reached a record 6,335, accounting for 15% of all traffic deaths, the deadliest year since 1975, according to the NHTSA. With a fatality rate of 31.39 per 100 million miles traveled, improved driver awareness and road safety measures remain essential to reducing preventable tragedies.

“Motorcyclists are among the most vulnerable users on the road,” said Candice Bond, managing partner of Bond Legal. “Even relatively minor collisions can result in severe injuries, making it critical for all drivers to remain vigilant.”

Bond, an experienced motorcycle accident attorney, stressed that in cases like this, an independent investigation conducted by an experienced attorney is crucial to protecting the rights of the victim’s family.

“Factors such as blind spots, driver inexperience, and distraction frequently contribute to these crashes. An attorney can serve as an advocate for the family, helping guide them through the legal process while ensuring accountability when traffic laws are violated,” Bond added.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the family of Nelson Graves may be entitled to a wrongful death claim. Family members may pursue compensation for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following such a tragic incident.

“The grief and emotional burden after losing a loved one in an accident can be overwhelming,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal.

“We understand the hardships families endure, and ensuring their legal rights are protected is crucial. A wrongful death attorney can monitor the progress of the investigation and work to safeguard the family’s best interests throughout the legal process.”
