Nealson Carrasquillo Dies After F-250 Runs Red Light in Orlando

ORLANDO, FL, (August 30, 2026) – Nealson Carrasquillo, 29, of Norwalk, Connecticut, was killed and his fiancée was critically injured in a two-vehicle crash early Sunday morning in Orlando.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Carrasquillo was driving a Volkswagen Jetta south on International Drive at approximately 2:46 a.m. when a Ford F-250 pickup truck struck his vehicle at Central Florida Parkway.

Carrasquillo was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased.

His fiancée, Julissa Velazquez, 23, suffered serious injuries and remains on life support, according to her family.

Investigators said Christopher Laureda, 19, of Florida, was driving the F-250 when he ran a red light before the collision. Laureda fled the scene on foot.

The Florida Highway Patrol charged Laureda with DUI involving death and leaving the scene of a fatal crash. Additional charges are expected.

Carrasquillo was vacationing in Florida with Velazquez. He leaves behind a young daughter and a 7-month-old son he shares with Velazquez.

A GoFundMe account has been established to assist the families following the crash.

FATAL TWO-VEHICLE ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), nearly 30 people die each day in the U.S. in drunk-driving crashes, equating to one person every 50 minutes. More than 10,000 people are killed in drunk-driving crashes annually.

An independent investigation will be necessary to determine other potential factors in this case, including the results of any test or tests used to establish Laureda’s blood-alcohol content.

Candice Bond, an experienced accident attorney, was interviewed and offered her thoughts on incidents such as this.

“Separate from criminal charges, a victim’s family may be entitled to compensation through a civil lawsuit against the responsible party,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal and a national analyst for Accident Injury News. “Along with the diligent efforts of law enforcement, an attorney can re-interview key witnesses, review any surveillance video from the crash scene and obtain phone and texting records of the liable party. As an advocate, an attorney can compassionately guide grieving families through this difficult period, protect their legal rights and help ensure that drunk drivers are held accountable for their reckless actions.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation results, Nealson Carrasquillo’s family may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim for medical and funeral expenses, loss of love and companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional trauma.

“An incident is considered a wrongful death when either a person or entity commits a wrongful or negligent act resulting in a person’s death,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal. “When vehicle accident fatalities stem from unsafe, aggressive or distracted driving, speeding, or driving under the influence, family members are generally left with the option of pursuing a civil action against the responsible motorist.”

Additionally, Julissa Velazquez may be entitled to pursue a personal injury claim for damages associated with medical and rehabilitation expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, and emotional trauma.
