LAKELAND, Fla. — The Polk County Sheriff’s Office is searching for suspects after a fatal accident happened May 12 on Pirates Way. Officials said a vehicle crashed into a house, killing a bicyclist.
Authorities identified the deceased as Nathaniel Jones, 38. Emergency personnel pronounced him dead at the scene.
Jones rode an electric bicycle at 1:30 p.m. when a white Mercedes-Benz AMG traveling through the neighborhood struck him. The impact pushed him into the house.
Deputies said the driver of the Mercedes-Benz, a 19-year-old male, was shot before the accident. He lost control of the vehicle and crashed. Officials confirmed the driver died at the scene. They continue to search for suspects who fled from the car after the shooting.
Detectives urge anyone with information to contact law enforcement. A $5,000 reward is available for tips leading to an arrest.
