Nashville Chain-reaction collision on Route 70 claims life of David Elliott

NASHVILLE, TN, (April 12, 2026) – A 59-year-old Cunningham man was killed in a three-vehicle crash on April 12 in Nashville, according to Metro Nashville police.

David Elliott was driving a blue Ford F-150 eastbound on U.S. Route 70 at about 5:22 p.m. when a westbound white F-150 left the roadway, overcorrected, and crossed into his lane, causing a broadside collision.

Authorities said an eastbound Ram then struck the rear of the white F-150, resulting in a chain-reaction crash. Elliott was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two passengers in Elliott’s vehicle were transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with unspecified injuries. The driver of the white F-150 was hospitalized with critical injuries, while the Ram driver suffered minor injuries.

FATAL THREE-VEHICLE ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

Authorities say the driver of the white F-150 was at fault and that charges are expected to be filed against him.

Each year, roughly 36,000 people die in motor vehicle accidents in this country. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, speeding is the primary cause of fatal crashes, followed by the influence of alcohol, drugs, or medication; failure to stay in the proper lane; failure to yield the right of way; and distracted driving.

Candice Bond, an experienced accident attorney, emphasized that in cases like this, it is crucial to carry out a prompt independent investigation to preserve evidence and protect the rights of victims’ families.

“As attorneys, our role is to provide legal guidance and support to families who have lost a loved one in an accident,” said Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal and a national analyst for Accident Injury News. “We help safeguard your rights and ensure that statements made to police or insurance companies are not used against you.”

Bond added, “An attorney will thoroughly evaluate all contributing factors and has the resources to retain expert witnesses, review driver histories, identify witnesses, and assess applicable insurance coverage. By serving as an advocate, an attorney can compassionately guide families through this difficult time while protecting their legal rights and interests.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending results of the investigation, the family of David Elliott may be entitled to a wrongful death claim for medical and funeral expenses, the loss of love and companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional trauma.

“A wrongful death occurs when a person or entity engages in a negligent or wrongful act that results in another person’s death,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal. “When fatal crashes are caused by unsafe, aggressive, or distracted driving, speeding, or impairment, families are often left with the option to pursue a civil action against the responsible party.”
