Bakersfield, CA (Aug. 10, 2026) — A 48-year-old man was killed after being struck by multiple vehicles Monday morning on the 24th Street Bridge in Bakersfield, according to police.
Police say Bakersfield resident Antoine Cobbins was struck by multiple vehicles, several of which fled the scene. The crash occurred at approximately 5:35 a.m. over the Kern River.
Cobbins was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Bakersfield Police Department is investigating the incident. Sadly, pedestrian accidents remain common in California, with nearly 7,500 pedestrians having died in the state between 2009 and 2018, according to California’s Office of Traffic Safety. California’s pedestrian fatality rate is almost 25% higher than the national average, and the state continues to record the highest number of pedestrian fatalities in the country.
