ISP: Mufeed Yasen killed in motorcycle collision with semi on I-90

HOFFMAN ESTATES, IL, (April 28, 2026) – A 28-year-old Rockford man was killed Tuesday evening in a motorcycle crash involving a semi-truck on Interstate 90 in Hoffman Estates, according to Illinois State Police.

Authorities said the crash occurred at approximately 6:23 p.m. near Beverly Road when a motorcycle traveling eastbound collided with a tractor-trailer. The motorcyclist, identified as Mufeed Albo Yasen, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials have not released additional details regarding the circumstances of the crash.

The incident remains under investigation by the Illinois State Police.

FATAL MOTORCYCLE-SEMI ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

Several factors can contribute to crashes involving tractor-trailers, including loss of vehicle control, mechanical failures, and driver fatigue.

Candice Bond, an experienced tractor-trailer accident attorney, noted that in cases like this, a prompt and independent investigation is essential to protect the rights of a victim’s family.

“Crashes involving large trucks are often complicated, with multiple contributing factors,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal and a national analyst for Accident Injury News. “An experienced attorney can help safeguard a grieving family’s interests, especially since trucking companies often deploy their own investigators and have significant resources to defend their drivers. Legal counsel can assist by securing expert testimony, reviewing driver histories, identifying witnesses, and examining insurance coverage, all while guiding families through the legal process.”

According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, 4,761 people were killed in crashes involving large trucks in 2017, including 3,289 incidents involving tractor-trailers or combination trucks. Sixty-nine percent of fatal crashes involved a tractor-trailer.

Motorcyclists face increased risks on roadways, as they are less visible to other drivers and more vulnerable in collisions. Data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration indicates that motorcyclists are about 27 times more likely than passenger vehicle occupants to die in a crash per vehicle mile traveled.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the outcome of the investigation, the family of Mufeed Albo Yasen may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim. Surviving family members can seek compensation for damages such as loss of companionship, funeral expenses, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic accident.

“The stress and sorrow can be extremely overwhelming after losing a loved one in an accident,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal. “We understand the challenges families face during such times, and ensuring their rights are protected is crucial. A wrongful death attorney can monitor the investigation and help make sure the family’s legal interests are fully represented.”
