Motorcyclist Parker Lehman injured after St. Petersburg police cruiser collision

ST PETERSBURG, FL, (May 01, 2026) — A Friday evening crash involving a St. Petersburg Police Department (SPPD) vehicle and a motorcycle left a 29-year-old man seriously injured.

According to SPPD, an officer was driving a Ford Explorer police cruiser westbound on 54th Avenue North at approximately 8:29 p.m. At the same time, the officer attempted to make a left turn at 16th Street North but failed to yield to oncoming traffic, colliding with an eastbound Yamaha motorcycle.

The motorcyclist, identified as Parker Lehman of St. Petersburg, sustained severe injuries and was transported to Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital for treatment.

Authorities said the officer involved in the crash was also taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

The incident remains under active investigation as officials work to determine all contributing factors.

MOTORCYCLE CRASH INVESTIGATION

Police vehicles may be involved in crashes for a variety of reasons, including distraction, excessive speed, or failure to yield the right-of-way. When one driver legally has the right-of-way, other motorists are required to yield to ensure safe passage through intersections.

Data from the National Safety Council (NSC) shows that approximately 82,564 motorcyclists were injured in traffic crashes in 2023, representing an injury rate of about 409 per 1 million miles traveled.

“Motorcyclists are among the most vulnerable users of the roadway, and multiple elements can contribute to serious crashes,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal.

“Limited visibility, driver inexperience, and distracted driving are frequent contributors to these incidents. In many cases, accident reconstruction specialists and motorcycle experts are needed to determine exactly what occurred,” Bond added.

“In addition to reviewing the police report, a thorough investigation will examine all possible contributing factors,” said Bond. “An attorney can engage expert witnesses, assess driver histories, locate witnesses, and evaluate insurance coverage to protect victims and ensure accountability when traffic laws are violated.”

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

Pending an investigation, Parker Lehman may have the right to pursue a personal injury lawsuit. Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal, emphasized that the aftermath of a serious injury can be overwhelming, affecting every aspect of a victim’s life, including work, finances, and family responsibilities.

“It is essential for victims to retain an attorney when filing a personal injury claim, as legal representation allows for effective negotiation with insurance companies,” Bond said.

“Insurance providers often attempt to push for quick settlements that are significantly lower than what a case may be worth. An experienced attorney will advocate aggressively on behalf of their client to ensure fair compensation and proper treatment throughout the process.”
