Motorcyclist killed in Zuni Road pickup truck crash in Albuquerque

ALBUQUERQUE, NM, (April 28, 2026) – A motorcyclist was killed Tuesday evening following a collision with a pickup truck at an Albuquerque intersection, according to authorities.

The Albuquerque Police Department (APD) reported that the crash occurred at approximately 8:50 p.m. at the intersection of Zuni Road and San Pablo Street. Investigators said a 2013 BMW motorcycle traveling eastbound on Zuni Road collided with a westbound 1995 Toyota pickup truck as the truck’s driver attempted to make a turn.

The motorcyclist was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment but later died from injuries sustained in the crash.

Authorities said the incident remains under investigation as they work to determine the circumstances leading up to the collision.

MOTORCYCLE CRASH INVESTIGATION

This crash highlights the risks motorcyclists face on roadways each day. When a rider has the right-of-way, other drivers are required to yield and allow safe passage, particularly at intersections.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, more than 6,300 motorcyclists were killed on U.S. roads in 2023, accounting for about 15% of all traffic fatalities.

“Motorcyclists are among the most vulnerable road users due to the lack of physical protection such as airbags or reinforced vehicle structures,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal.

“Factors such as blind spots, driver inexperience, and distraction frequently contribute to these types of crashes. In many cases, accident reconstruction specialists and even motorcycle experts are needed to determine exactly what occurred,” Bond added.

“These resources are essential in helping victims or their families pursue financial compensation after a crash. An attorney can secure expert witnesses, review driver histories, identify witnesses, and evaluate insurance coverage,” said Bond, a national legal analyst for Accident Injury News.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

As the investigation continues, the family of the victim may have grounds to file a wrongful death claim. Families who lose loved ones in fatal accidents may seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress.

“The emotional strain after losing a loved one in a crash can be overwhelming,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal.

“We understand the difficulties families face, and ensuring their rights are protected is critical. A wrongful death attorney can follow the investigation closely and help safeguard the family’s best interests,” Formica said.

“An attorney can also protect victims’ families from insurance companies and their legal teams while thoroughly examining the facts of the case. Strong legal advocacy ensures that families receive fair treatment and that their rights are upheld.”
