Motorcycle Rider Jan Quinones Dies After Bus Fails to Yield

FRANKLIN, OH, January 05, 2026 – A motorcycle crash involving a public transit bus Monday afternoon in Franklin resulted in the death of a 24-year-old Columbus man, according to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said the crash occurred at the intersection of Rohr Road and Gateway Court in Hamilton Township. A Central Ohio Transit Authority bus stopped at a stop sign and then made a left turn onto Rohr Road, failing to yield to an oncoming motorcycle traveling westbound.

The motorcycle collided with the driver’s side of the bus, causing the rider and motorcycle to become trapped underneath. Authorities said the motorcycle caught fire following the impact.

The rider was identified as Jan Quinones, 24, of Columbus. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:16 p.m. The bus driver, a 57-year-old Columbus man, was taken to a local hospital with injuries. No passengers were on the bus at the time.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office Accident Investigation Unit is handling the case.

CRASH INVESTIGATION

Candice Bond, an experienced bus accident attorney, stated that in cases like this, it is critical for an independent investigation to be conducted as soon as possible to help protect a victim’s rights.

“Collisions involving buses can be highly complex, with multiple contributing factors that must be carefully examined,” said Bond, a Managing Partner of Bond Legal.

“An experienced attorney can help shield victims from large entities that often dispatch their own investigators to crash scenes and have substantial resources available to defend a negligent driver.

“Legal counsel can advocate on behalf of a victim by retaining expert witnesses, reviewing driver histories, locating witnesses, examining insurance coverage, and guiding families through the legal process,” Bond added.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Following the investigation, the family of Jan Quinones may have the option to pursue a wrongful death claim. In such cases, surviving family members may seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress resulting from a fatal accident.

“The grief and emotional burden after losing a loved one in an accident can be overwhelming,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal.

“We recognize the challenges families face during these difficult times, and protecting their legal rights is essential. A wrongful death attorney can remain informed on the official investigation and help ensure a family’s rights and best interests are safeguarded.”
