Motorcycle hit-and-run crash kills Taylor Cole in Cajon Pass

CAJON PASS, CA (April 5, 2026) – A 45-year-old Crestline man was killed Sunday in a hit-and-run collision crash involving a motorcycle in the Cajon Pass area.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 5:20 p.m. along State Route 138 east of Interstate 15. A Chrysler Town and Country traveling westbound crossed into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a motorcycle operated by Taylor Cole.

Cole, described as a scientist and adventurer, died at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash.

Authorities said the driver of the Chrysler fled the scene and has not yet been located.

An online fundraiser has been created to assist with funeral expenses and related costs.

The investigation remains ongoing, and anyone with information is urged to contact CHP.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

A driver involved in a hit-and-run collision is legally required to remain at the scene and notify law enforcement. Failing to do so can result in serious criminal charges and legal consequences.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 2,872 people were killed in hit-and-run crashes in 2023, a slight decrease from 2,972 the previous year. Officials note that this reduction suggests total incidents may have dropped to around 2,800.

“Having the appropriate resources is essential to thoroughly investigate a hit-and-run case and establish negligence,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal.

“Factors such as road conditions, signage visibility, and lighting must all be carefully evaluated. These steps are necessary to help families seek justice after losing a loved one,” Bond explained.

Bond, a national analyst for Accident Injury News, added that “drivers must exercise caution at all times, as even a brief lapse in attention can have fatal consequences.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the results of the investigation, the family of Taylor Cole may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim. Surviving family members may seek compensation for loss of companionship, emotional distress, and pain and suffering following such a tragic accident.

“The emotional toll after losing a loved one in a crash can be overwhelming,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal.

“We understand the hardships families face, and ensuring their legal rights are protected is critical. A wrongful death attorney will monitor the investigation and help safeguard their best interests,” he added.
