CARROLL, Iowa— A two-vehicle accident on April 20 resulted in six people being transported to the hospital, including two with serious injuries.
The accident occurred at 11:11 a.m. at the intersection of Grant Road and 210th Street in Carroll. Authorities said a 2021 Kia Sportage, driven by a 31-year-old woman from Carroll, was traveling south on Grant Road. The driver attempted a left turn onto 210th Street and collided with a northbound 2009 Jeep Patriot driven by a 31-year-old Carroll man.
Officials identified Morgan Dettman, a 25-year-old passenger in the Jeep Patriot, as one of the individuals who sustained serious injuries. Emergency responders transported both Dettman and the Kia driver to St. Anthony Regional Hospital for treatment.
The Jeep driver and three children in his vehicle sustained minor injuries and sought medical care by private vehicle. Authorities issued citations to both drivers for traffic violations.

CRASH INVESTIGATION
Each year, motor vehicle crashes in this country kill roughly 36,000 people and injure 1.9 million more. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, speeding was the primary cause of fatal crashes in 2018, followed by the influence of alcohol, drugs, or medication; failure to stay in the proper lane; failure to yield the right of way; and distracted driving.

“An accident reconstruction team is sometimes needed to help piece together what happened. All of these resources are necessary for helping clients receive monetary compensation for damages or a loss following a collision,” said Bond.
PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM
A victim may have the right to pursue a personal injury claim pending an investigation.
Bond said, “Injured victims involved in a collision often seek a personal injury claim to cover the cost of medical bills, future medical care, loss of income, emotional trauma, and pain and suffering.
“Insurance companies can be notoriously unconcerned with the mounting costs that an injured party may accrue. An attorney can help. We protect the victims of these tragedies daily, forcing the insurance companies to pay for their mistakes,” she added.
