BIRMINGHAM, AL, (July 04, 2026) – A Birmingham woman died early Saturday after she was struck by a vehicle while crossing a roadway in the city, according to the Birmingham Police Department and the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office.
Authorities said Mona Jean Ables, 53, was crossing the 2300 block of First Avenue N at approximately 2 a.m. when she was hit by a vehicle.
Emergency responders transported Ables to UAB Hospital, where she was pronounced dead shortly after 2:30 a.m.
Officials said the driver remained at the scene and cooperated fully with investigators. Authorities have not announced whether any charges or citations will be filed as the investigation continues.
