Mitchell John Collins Charged in Skaneateles Hit-and-Run Collision

SKANEATELES, NY (February 07, 2026) — A 45-year-old man was seriously injured in a hit-and-run crash while operating a snow blower in a driveway along Mottville Road, according to State Police.

Authorities said the victim was struck by a passing pickup truck allegedly driven by 31-year-old Mitchell John Collins, who continued eastbound without stopping. The injured man was transported to Upstate University Hospital, where he was treated for serious internal injuries.

Investigators identified the suspect vehicle as a green 2006 Chevrolet Silverado with a yellow front plow and black bed cap. The truck was later located at a residence on Shepard Road in Marcellus, and Collins was arrested on Feb. 12 in connection with the incident.

HIT-AND-RUN CRASH INVESTIGATION

Leaving the scene of an accident is a crime, but statistics show that more than one hit-and-run crash occurs every minute on U.S. roads.

Many suspects flee because they may be intoxicated, driving without a license, or worried about arrest if they remain at the scene. Candice Bond, an experienced hit-and-run accident attorney, said that in cases like this, it is critical to conduct an independent investigation quickly to safeguard a victim’s rights.

“Having the proper resources is extremely important to investigate a hit-and-run accident case and establish negligence,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal and a national analyst with Accident Injury News. “Factors such as roadway conditions, signage visibility, and lighting must be carefully evaluated. These steps are necessary to help an injured victim seek justice and pursue financial compensation after a hit-and-run crash.”

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

The victim injured in this accident may have the right to pursue a personal injury lawsuit. Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal, noted that the stress and uncertainty following a serious injury can be overwhelming and may affect every aspect of life, including family, work, finances, and overall well-being.

“While no amount of money can undo a catastrophic injury, it is essential that victims understand their legal rights and available options,” Formica said. “The injured victim in this collision may be entitled to an injury claim and could seek compensation for damages such as medical expenses, future medical care, pain and suffering, and emotional trauma.”
