Mildred Ramsey dies in Hulbert OK head-on collision on Hwy 51

HULBERT, OK, (April 24, 2026) — Two people lost their lives following a head-on collision April 24 near Hulbert in Cherokee County, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP).

Authorities reported that Mildred Ramsey, 79, of Broken Arrow, was a passenger in an eastbound vehicle traveling on State Highway 51 at approximately 12:25 p.m. At that time, a westbound vehicle driven by a 44-year-old Hulbert woman crossed the center line and struck Ramsey’s vehicle head-on.

The crash occurred near North 466 Road.

Ramsey sustained critical injuries and was airlifted to a Tulsa-area hospital, where she later died, according to officials. The driver of her vehicle was also injured in the crash.

The Hulbert driver was transported to a local hospital, where she also succumbed to her injuries.

An investigation into the incident remains ongoing.

FATAL HEAD-ON ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

Authorities continue to investigate the fatal crash. Tragically, about 36,000 people die in motor vehicle accidents each year in the United States. Data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration shows that leading causes of fatal crashes include speeding, impairment from alcohol or drugs, failure to remain in the proper lane, failure to yield the right-of-way, and distracted driving.

Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal, noted that in cases like this, a comprehensive independent investigation is critical. It enables victims and their families to effectively deal with insurance companies and pursue rightful compensation.

Bond, a national analyst for Accident Injury News, emphasized that while no financial recovery can replace the loss of a loved one, proper legal representation remains essential.

“Insurance companies frequently attempt to pressure grieving families into accepting settlements that are far below what a claim may be worth,” Bond said. “Their goal is to limit financial exposure, often without considering the long-term emotional and financial impact on a family. Attorneys work diligently to ensure victims and their families are treated fairly and receive appropriate compensation.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Based on the information available, the family of Mildred Ramsey will likely be eligible to pursue a wrongful death claim seeking damages for funeral expenses, loss of companionship, emotional distress, and pain and suffering.

“A wrongful death claim is a civil lawsuit filed by the estate or surviving family members of the deceased for financial compensation,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal. “It differs significantly from a criminal case and proceeds as a separate legal action.”

“The grief and hardship following the loss of a loved one in a crash can be overwhelming,” Bond added. “We understand the challenges families face, and it is crucial that their legal rights are safeguarded. A wrongful death attorney will monitor the ongoing investigation and help ensure that the family’s best interests remain protected throughout the process.”
