DPS: Michelle Sanders Hurt in Martin County Fatal Crash

Martin, TX (July 1, 2026) — Michelle Sanders, 29, was seriously injured in a head-on crash Wednesday on Interstate Highway 20 in Martin County.

The Texas Department of Public Safety reported that Sanders was riding as a passenger in a vehicle that failed to yield while a 42-year-old woman was attempting to merge onto the IH-20 on-ramp. The two vehicles collided head-on as a result.

Sanders was transported to Midland Memorial Hospital, where she was treated for her injuries.

The driver of the vehicle Sanders was riding in, along with two other passengers, died in the crash. The collision remains under investigation.

Incident Location

HEAD-ON CRASH INVESTIGATION

Head-on collisions are among the most catastrophic types of motor vehicle crashes because of the tremendous force generated when two vehicles traveling at speed strike one another directly.

While these crashes make up only about two percent of all traffic accidents, they are responsible for roughly 10 percent of all traffic-related deaths. The severity of impact in head-on wrecks frequently leads to life-altering injuries, including traumatic brain injuries (TBIs).

Candice Bond, a seasoned auto accident attorney, explained that in incidents like this one, having an independent investigation conducted by an experienced lawyer is critical to properly preserve evidence on behalf of the victim.

“An attorney can gather the necessary evidence to help demonstrate that a driver acted recklessly, and that process often requires significant resources,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal. “An attorney can act as an advocate, compassionately supporting a grieving family through this difficult period, safeguarding their legal rights and interests, and working to ensure that a driver who violates traffic laws is held responsible.”

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

Michelle Sanders may be entitled to file a personal injury lawsuit. Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal, pointed out that the anxiety and hardship that follow a serious injury can be immense, affecting nearly every part of a victim’s life — from family and career to finances and overall well-being.

“While no financial settlement can undo the harm caused by a serious injury, it’s essential that victims understand their legal rights and what compensation they may be owed,” Formica said. “The injured party in this crash could be eligible to file a claim, potentially recovering damages for medical costs, ongoing care, pain and suffering, and emotional distress.”
