Michael West arrested in Santa Ana hit-and-run, victim hurt: Police

SANTA ANA, CA, (April 21, 2026) – One person was seriously injured earlier this week in a hit-and-run crash at a Santa Ana intersection, and authorities have arrested a suspect.

According to police, the collision occurred at Main Street and Santa Ana Boulevard when a vehicle driven by 29-year-old Michael West allegedly ran a red light and struck another car.

Officials said West fled the scene following the crash. The unidentified victim was transported to a local hospital with significant injuries.

After an investigation, authorities located and apprehended West, who has been charged with felony hit-and-run.

The case remains under investigation.

HIT-AND-RUN CRASH INVESTIGATION

California has tens of thousands of hit-and-run crashes each year, resulting in numerous injuries and deaths, according to the California Office of Traffic Safety.

Leaving the scene of an accident is a criminal offense, yet approximately 11 percent of all crashes involve a hit-and-run driver. Many drivers flee due to intoxication, lack of a valid license, or fear of arrest.

Candice Bond, an experienced hit-and-run accident attorney, explained that in situations like this, it is crucial to have an independent investigation carried out by an experienced lawyer to safeguard a victim’s rights.

“Having the right resources is essential to properly investigate a hit-and-run case and establish negligence,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal. “Factors such as road conditions, visibility of signage, and lighting must all be carefully reviewed. These steps are important in helping victims or families seek justice and financial compensation.”

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

The victim injured in this accident may have the right to pursue a personal injury lawsuit.

Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal, noted that the emotional and financial strain following a serious injury can be overwhelming, often affecting a person’s family life, employment, and overall well-being.

“While no amount of compensation can undo a serious injury, it is important that victims understand their legal rights and the options available to them,” Formica said. “An injured individual in a crash like this may be eligible to pursue a claim for damages, including medical costs, future care, pain and suffering, and emotional distress.”
