AUBURN, AL — June 25, 2026 — A 68-year-old man was left severely injured Thursday after being struck by a vehicle in Auburn, resulting in the arrest of the driver on assault charges, the Auburn Police Department confirmed.

The victim sustained serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment. His current condition has not been publicly released.

Sherril was taken into custody following the crash and charged with second-degree assault. No additional details regarding his arrest or potential bond status were immediately made available by authorities.

PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

Pedestrians are among the most vulnerable users of public roadways and face significant risk every time they travel on foot near traffic. While all road users share some responsibility, the primary burden of caution rests with drivers.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that approximately 140,000 pedestrians were injured in traffic crashes and transported to emergency rooms across the country in 2022. These incidents are frequently attributed to distracted driving, excessive speeding, and failure to yield to pedestrians.

“Having the proper resources is extremely important to investigate a pedestrian accident case and prove negligence,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal and national analyst for Accident Injury News.

“Road conditions, visibility, and lighting are all possible contributing factors considered and examined,” added Bond, an experienced pedestrian accident attorney. “These procedures are necessary for helping those who have lost a loved one receive the justice that they deserve.”

Bond further emphasized, “In most instances, pedestrians possess the right-of-way when crossing an intersection or a street, regardless of whether they are in a marked crosswalk. A driver must yield to any pedestrian.”

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

Pending the outcome of the investigation, the injured victim may have grounds to pursue a personal injury suit.

“Injured victims involved in a collision often seek a personal injury claim to cover the cost of medical bills, future medical care, loss of income, emotional trauma, and pain and suffering,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel at Bond Legal.

“Insurance companies can be notoriously unconcerned with mounting expenses that an injured party may accrue. An attorney can help. We protect the victims of these tragedies daily, forcing the insurance companies to pay for their mistakes,” Formica added.
