Michael Locastro dies after motorcycle collision with Subaru in Jericho

JERICHO, NY, (September 21, 2026) – Michael Locastro, 56, of Westbury, was killed Monday afternoon following a motorcycle crash in Jericho, Nassau County.

According to the Nassau County Police Department, Locastro was riding a 2025 Indian motorcycle northbound on Cedar Swamp Road when a 2020 Subaru made a left turn onto Old Jericho Turnpike from Cedar Swamp Road. The two vehicles collided at approximately 3:28 p.m.

Locastro suffered serious injuries in the crash and was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The Subaru driver, a 32-year-old woman, remained at the scene and was not injured.

No charges were announced. The investigation remains ongoing.

FATAL MOTORCYCLE CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

The death of Michael Locastro highlights the risks motorcyclists face while traveling on roads across the United States.

More than 6,000 motorcyclists were killed on American roads in 2022, police said, citing National Highway Traffic Safety Administration data. Those crashes accounted for 15% of fatal crashes that year. In 2017, motorcyclists were 27 times more likely than passenger car occupants to die in a crash per vehicle mile traveled.

Candice Bond, an experienced motorcycle accident attorney, said that in cases like this, an independent investigation is important to preserve evidence for the victim.

“Motorcyclists are arguably the most vulnerable motorists on the road, and several factors can contribute to fatal crashes. Blind spots, inexperienced drivers, and distracted motorists can often cause these types of collisions. An accident reconstruction team, along with motorcycle manufacturing experts, may also be needed to help determine what happened,” said Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal.

“These resources can be important in helping clients seek monetary compensation for damages following a collision. A lawyer has the resources to hire expert witnesses, conduct drivers’ background checks, locate witnesses to the crash, and review applicable insurance coverage,” said Bond, who is also a national legal analyst for Accident Injury News.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the family of Michael Locastro may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim. Families of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress after a tragic or catastrophic accident such as this.

“We understand what victims must endure, and knowing your rights and protecting them is essential. As experienced wrongful death lawyers, we will handle the legal work while providing updates regarding any ongoing investigation and taking steps to protect your legal rights and best interests,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel at Bond Legal.

Formica said grieving families can sometimes become overwhelmed by the legal procedures intended to protect their rights. An attorney can serve as a valuable and compassionate resource, helping a family navigate the difficult period and ensuring those left behind receive the restitution to which they are entitled.

“Insurance companies may try to pressure victims into accepting a quick settlement for substantially less than a case may be worth. They are financially motivated to limit compensation and may not account for the long-term consequences and suffering victims will experience. Attorneys advocate for their clients to ensure they are treated respectfully and compensated fairly,” said Formica.
