RACINE, WI, (May 04, 2026) — A 61-year-old Racine resident was killed Sunday following a collision involving a passenger vehicle and a mobility scooter on Taylor Avenue, according to authorities.
The Racine Police Department said officers responded to the area between Victoria Drive and De Koven Avenue after receiving reports of a pedestrian-involved crash.
Investigators said Michael Hicks was crossing the roadway when he was struck by an oncoming vehicle.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene and provided medical aid, but Hicks was later pronounced dead due to his injuries.
Police said the driver involved, an 84-year-old man, remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Authorities added that impairment and age are not believed to have contributed to the crash.
The Racine Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
