Michael DeRivera dies after CO Springs pickup, motorcycle crash

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO, (April 07, 2026) – A 48-year-old man died following a collision between a motorcycle and a pickup truck Tuesday morning in Colorado Springs.

According to Colorado Springs police, the crash occurred around 8:45 a.m. near the intersection of Corporate Drive and Mark Dabling Boulevard.

Authorities said Michael DeRivera was riding a motorcycle when it collided with a pickup truck under circumstances that remain under investigation.

DeRivera was transported to a hospital, where he later died from injuries sustained in the crash.

The driver of the pickup truck was treated at the scene and released.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

In 2023, motorcycle fatalities in the United States reached 6,335, accounting for 15% of all traffic deaths—the highest number recorded since 1975, according to NHTSA. With a fatality rate of 31.39 per 100 million miles traveled, improved driver awareness and safety measures remain essential to reducing these tragedies.

“Motorcyclists are among the most vulnerable individuals on the road,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal. “Even low-speed collisions can result in severe or fatal injuries, underscoring the need for caution.”

Bond, an experienced motorcycle accident attorney, stressed that an independent investigation conducted by a qualified lawyer is crucial to protect the rights of a victim’s family.

“Blind spots, driver inexperience, and distracted driving are frequent contributing factors in these crashes. An attorney can serve as an advocate for families, helping them navigate the legal process while ensuring accountability when traffic laws are violated,” Bond added, a national legal analyst for Accident Injury News.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the family of Michael DeRivera may be entitled to a wrongful death claim. Family members of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a catastrophic accident such as this incident.

“The grief and emotional burden after losing a loved one in a crash can be overwhelming,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal.

“We understand the challenges families face, and protecting their legal rights is critical. A wrongful death attorney will monitor the investigation and help ensure that the family’s best interests are represented.”
