Michael Alan Gandy dies after SUV motorcycle collision NC

STATESVILLE, NC, (May 01, 2026) – A 57-year-old man was tragically killed in a head-on motorcycle accident involving an SUV Friday night in Statesville.

According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, a 17-year-old Statesville male was driving a Ford Edge southbound on Whites Farm Road near Ingram Road at approximately 8:20 p.m. when he crossed the center line and collided with a northbound Kawasaki motorcycle.

The rider of the motorcycle, identified as Michael Alan Gandy, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Authorities said the teen driver was not injured. Charges are pending against the juvenile following consultation with the Iredell County District Attorney’s Office. The crash remains under investigation.

FATAL MOTORCYCLE ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

As the investigation moves forward, Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal, emphasized the importance of thorough, independent investigations following serious accidents. The review examines all possible contributing factors, including driver behavior, impairment, and roadway conditions.

Motorcyclists remain particularly vulnerable on U.S. roadways. Due to their smaller size, motorcycles are often less visible to other drivers, placing riders at significant risk in collisions.

“Motorcycle accident victims who are injured due to a negligent driver may pursue a personal injury claim to recover damages,” said Bond, a national analyst for Accident Injury News. “In tragic situations where negligence leads to a fatality, surviving family members may pursue a wrongful death action.”

Bond added, “Although financial compensation cannot replace a loved one, securing experienced legal representation is critical. A wrongful death attorney helps families navigate the legal process and work toward restoring stability after an unexpected loss.”

Statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration show that motorcyclists are approximately 27 times more likely than passenger vehicle occupants to die in a crash per vehicle mile traveled.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the outcome of the investigation, the family of Michael Alan Gandy may be eligible to file a wrongful death claim, seeking compensation for loss of companionship, funeral expenses, emotional suffering, and other damages associated with the tragic loss.

Stefano Formica, Of Counsel at Bond Legal, highlighted the importance of legal guidance for victims’ families.

“The emotional and financial burden can be overwhelming when a loved one is lost in a crash,” Formica said. “An experienced attorney can help ensure that families understand their rights and that those rights are fully protected throughout the legal process.”

Formica added that a wrongful death lawyer can monitor the investigation closely and advocate on behalf of the family to secure fair compensation.
