Miami-Dade crash: Dwayne White charged after hit-and-run

MIAMI-DADE, FL (April 5, 2026) – A 43-year-old man has been charged in connection with a hit-and-run crash that left a bicyclist critically injured Sunday evening, authorities said.

According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred around 6 p.m. in the 2600 block of Southwest 139th Avenue when a motorist struck a cyclist and fled the scene.

The victim was later found in a ditch with severe injuries and was airlifted to Jackson South Medical Center in critical condition.

Deputies located a beige Nissan Altima nearby that had been concealed under a blanket and showed fresh crash damage. Investigators identified the vehicle’s owner as Dwayne Lamont White.

White told authorities the bicyclist had thrown a brick at his windshield before the crash. He was arrested and charged with attempted premeditated murder and leaving the scene of a crash involving serious bodily injury.

The investigation remains ongoing.

HIT-AND-RUN CRASH INVESTIGATION

Leaving the scene of a crash is a criminal offense, and data shows that about 11 percent of all accidents involve hit-and-run drivers. In many instances, at-fault motorists believe they can escape accountability, but they often face charges once identified.

Attorney Candice Bond stressed the importance of a timely and independent investigation to safeguard victims’ rights. “Having the proper resources is critical in investigating a hit-and-run case and establishing negligence,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal.

“Factors such as road conditions, visibility of signage, and lighting must all be carefully reviewed. These steps are essential in helping victims secure justice and financial compensation after being injured in a hit-and-run crash.”

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

A victim may have the right to pursue a personal injury claim pending an investigation.

Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal, said, “Injured victims involved in a collision often pursue a personal injury claim to cover medical expenses, future treatment, lost income, emotional trauma, and pain and suffering.”

“Insurance companies are often indifferent to the growing financial burden faced by victims. An attorney can help by advocating on their behalf. We work to protect victims and hold insurers accountable so they provide fair compensation,” he added.
