Melvin Alvarado dies after SUV motorcycle collision in Shelby AL

SHELBY, AL, (April 14, 2026) – A 32-year-old motorcyclist was killed Monday evening in a crash in Shelby County, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

Officials said Melvin Fabicio Acevedo Alvarado was riding a 2021 Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle when it was struck head-on by a 2024 Nissan Pathfinder on Shelby County Road 10 near Shelby County Road 22 just before 7 p.m.

The impact ejected Alvarado from the motorcycle. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash occurred approximately three miles north of Montevallo.

The driver of the Nissan was transported to Baptist Health Shelby Hospital with unspecified injuries. The incident remains under investigation.

MOTORCYCLE CRASH INVESTIGATION

In 2023, motorcycle fatalities in the U.S. reached 6,335, accounting for 15% of all traffic deaths—the highest level since 1975, according to NHTSA. With a fatality rate of 31.39 per 100 million miles traveled, improved driver awareness and safety measures remain essential.

“Motorcyclists are among the most vulnerable road users,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal. “Even relatively minor impacts can result in severe or fatal injuries, making caution critical for all drivers.”

Bond, an experienced motorcycle accident attorney, emphasized the importance of an independent investigation in such cases.

“Factors such as blind spots, driver inexperience, and distractions often contribute to these crashes,” Bond said. “An attorney can help guide families through the legal process while ensuring accountability when traffic laws are violated.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the family of Melvin Alvarado may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim. Surviving relatives may seek compensation for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic accident.

“The emotional toll after losing a loved one in a crash can be overwhelming,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel at Bond Legal.

“We understand the challenges families face, and protecting their rights is essential. A wrongful death attorney will stay informed about the investigation and help ensure that the family’s legal rights and best interests are fully protected.”
