Melody Quinones fatally struck in Brentwood NY accident

BRENTWOOD, NY (April 16, 2026) – A 21-year-old woman was killed early Wednesday morning after being struck by a vehicle in Brentwood, according to the Suffolk County Police Department.

Authorities said Melody Quinones was on the southbound side of Washington Avenue at approximately 5:10 a.m. when she was hit by a southbound 2010 Volkswagen.

Quinones was transported to South Shore University Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

The driver remained at the scene and was not injured. Officials said the vehicle was impounded for a safety inspection.

Suffolk Police Third Squad detectives are continuing to investigate.

PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

Every year, more pedestrians lose their lives on U.S. roads. These deaths are preventable—drivers can help stop them by staying attentive behind the wheel. Approximately 3,304 pedestrians were struck and killed by drivers on U.S. roads in the first half of 2024, the Governors Highway Safety Association said in a report.

“Having the proper resources is extremely important to investigate a pedestrian accident case and prove negligence,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal and an experienced pedestrian accident attorney.

“Road conditions, signage visibility, and roadway lighting are all contributing factors that must be carefully analyzed. These steps are essential in helping families pursue justice after losing a loved one,” Bond added.

“An accident reconstruction team is sometimes required to determine what occurred. These tools are vital in helping clients recover compensation for damages or loss following a crash,” said Bond, a national legal analyst for Accident Injury News.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

“It is almost always a driver’s duty to yield to any pedestrian,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal. The family of Melody Quinones may be entitled to a wrongful death claim.

“Families of wrongful death victims may seek compensation for loss of income and companionship, pain and suffering, funeral expenses, and emotional distress following a tragic accident,” Formica said.

Serving as an advocate, an attorney can help guide families through this difficult time while protecting their rights.

“Insurance companies often attempt to pressure victims into accepting quick settlements for less than a claim’s true value,” Formica added. “An attorney will advocate to ensure fair compensation and proper treatment.”
