Medford truck crash kills cyclist Geoffrey Bodenschatz, police say

MEDFORD, OR, (April 10, 2026) – A 66-year-old Medford man was killed on April 10 following a collision involving a FedEx delivery truck, according to authorities.

Police reported that Geoffrey “Geoff” Bodenschatz was riding his bicycle westbound on the sidewalk along E. McAndrews Road, between Royal Avenue and Poplar Drive, when a FedEx truck exiting a nearby parking lot struck him.

The impact left Bodenschatz pinned beneath the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene due to the severity of his injuries.

Officials confirmed that the driver of the truck remained at the scene and cooperated fully with investigators. No citations have been issued at this time.

The Medford Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.

A GoFundMe fundraiser has been created to support Bodenschatz’s family during this difficult time.

CRASH INVESTIGATION

Candice Bond, an experienced commercial accident attorney, emphasized that in cases like this, an independent investigation should be conducted as soon as possible to safeguard a victim’s rights.

“Commercial vehicle accidents are frequently complicated, and a variety of contributing factors must be carefully examined,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal.

“An experienced attorney can help protect victims from trucking companies, which often deploy their own investigative teams and have extensive resources to defend negligent drivers.

“Legal counsel can advocate effectively by securing expert witnesses, reviewing driver histories, identifying witnesses, and evaluating all available insurance coverage, while guiding victims and families through the legal process.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

The family of Geoffrey Bodenschatz may seek compensation for damages including funeral expenses, loss of income, loss of companionship, and other related hardships.

“A death to a family member after an accident is both tragic and devastating to a surviving family. The grief, shock, and anger can be overwhelming,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal.

She added, “Beyond the emotional toll, the loss of a loved one can also create significant financial strain. Expenses such as lost income and funeral costs can place an enormous burden on families already coping with a tragic loss.”
