Tampa police: Mauricus Green held after deadly DUI collision

TAMPA, FL, (December 06, 2025) – A motorcyclist died early Saturday after a suspected DUI driver struck him during a traffic collision in Tampa, according to the Tampa Police Department.

Officials said 50-year-old Mauricus Labron Green was driving a 2016 Nissan Rogue westbound on County Line Road East at about 2:30 a.m. when he attempted a left turn onto Grand Hampton Drive and failed to yield. His vehicle collided with an eastbound 2012 Kawasaki motorcycle.

The motorcyclist was transported to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries. Police said Green showed signs of impairment at the scene and was arrested on a charge of DUI manslaughter. The investigation remains ongoing.

DUI ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

Despite continued enforcement efforts nationwide, impaired drivers still pose a serious risk to others on the roadway. Alcohol consumption can significantly reduce a driver’s ability to safely operate a vehicle, leading to poor judgment, impaired vision, decreased coordination, and slower reaction times.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Florida recorded 3,396 traffic fatalities in 2023, with impairment listed as a contributing factor in 839 of those deaths.

An independent investigation is often necessary to determine all contributing elements of a crash, including the driver’s blood-alcohol level and any additional circumstances that may have played a role.

Candice Bond, an experienced DUI accident attorney, shared her perspective on incidents like this.

“Separate from any criminal case, a victim’s family may have grounds to pursue civil compensation from the at-fault driver,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal and national analyst for Accident Injury News. “Alongside law enforcement’s efforts, an attorney can re-interview witnesses, review available surveillance footage, and obtain phone or texting records of the responsible party. As an advocate, a lawyer can help guide victims’ families through a devastating time, protect their legal rights, and ensure that an impaired driver is held fully accountable.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the outcome of the investigation, the victim’s family may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim. Surviving family members of wrongful death victims may seek compensation for loss of companionship, emotional pain and suffering, and other damages resulting from a tragic incident such as this.

“The grief and pressure that follow the unexpected loss of a loved one can be incredibly overwhelming,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal.

“We recognize the challenges families face, and ensuring that their rights are protected is crucial. A wrongful death attorney will monitor the official investigation and work to safeguard the family’s best interests throughout the process.”
