PORTLAND, OR, (May 09, 2026) – Three people were injured early Friday morning in a downtown Portland DUII crash that led to the arrest of a suspect, according to the Portland Police Bureau.
Authorities said the collision occurred at approximately 1:23 a.m. at the intersection of W. Burnside Street and N.W. Eighth Avenue and involved a rideshare vehicle and another passenger vehicle. The impact left both drivers trapped inside their vehicles.
Portland Fire & Rescue crews responded to the scene and extricated the victims from the wreckage. A rideshare driver, a passenger, and the second driver were all transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries. Officials said all three are expected to survive.
Police identified the suspect as Matthew J. Bober, 37, who was placed under guard at the hospital before being booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center. He faces multiple charges, including DUII, second-degree assault, reckless driving, and recklessly endangering another person.
The Portland Police Bureau’s Traffic Division continues to investigate the crash.
