PORT ORFORD, OR, (June 26, 2026) — Maryanne Drake, 18, of Auburn, Washington, was hospitalized with serious injuries Friday morning following a two-vehicle head-on collision near Port Orford, Curry County.
According to the Oregon State Police, an 18-year-old from Washington was driving a black Chrysler Pacifica northbound on Highway 101 near milepost 312 when he reportedly fell asleep at the wheel. The Chrysler then drifted into the opposite lane and crashed head-on into a school bus converted into a motorhome at 8:20 a.m.
Drake, a passenger in the Chrysler, sustained serious injuries and was taken to the hospital. Two other passengers in the Chrysler were also taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The Chrysler driver died at the scene.
The bus driver, a 73-year-old man from Fort Bragg, California, was not injured in the collision.
The Curry County Sheriff’s Office, Gold Beach Fire Department, and the Oregon Department of Transportation assisted at the scene.
