DPS: Martin Gonzales Rangel dies after Gaines County stop sign crash

GAINES, TX, (March 24, 2026) — A 19-year-old Denver City resident, Martin Alexander Gonzales Rangel, was killed Tuesday night in a two-vehicle crash in Gaines County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Authorities said a GMC Sierra traveling westbound failed to obey a stop sign at the intersection of FM 2055 and FM 2056 at about 8:30 p.m., colliding with a northbound Ford F-150. The impact caused the Ford to overturn.

Rangel, a passenger in the Sierra, was pronounced dead at the scene. Several others were injured and transported to area hospitals. The crash remains under investigation.

CRASH INVESTIGATION

According to the Federal Highway Administration, about 40 percent of vehicle crashes occur at intersections, often due to drivers failing to obey stop signs or traffic signals. Common causes include impatience, reckless driving, and distracted behavior. Candice Bond, an experienced auto accident attorney, stated that an independent investigation is essential to protect the rights of victims.

“It is critical to determine the exact factors that contributed to these types of crashes. An attorney can evaluate insurance policies, retain expert witnesses, conduct background checks, and identify key witnesses,” said Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal.

She added that timely investigations are crucial to preserving important evidence.

“In addition to reviewing official reports, an attorney will examine all contributing elements,” Bond said. “Legal counsel has the resources to secure expert testimony, investigate driver history, locate witnesses, and assess insurance coverage. Acting as an advocate, an attorney can help guide victims and their families through what can be a complex process.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the outcome of the investigation, the family of Martin Gonzales Rangel may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim. Surviving family members can seek compensation for loss of companionship, emotional suffering, and other damages resulting from a tragic accident.

Bond noted, “Families who lose a loved one are often overwhelmed by the legal process designed to protect their rights. An experienced attorney can provide compassionate guidance during this difficult time and help ensure that those left behind receive the compensation they deserve.”
