Martha Miranda dies after Edinburg DUI collision at intersection

Edinburg, TX, (May 02, 2026) — Martha Luna Miranda, 39, was killed and four others were injured following a late Saturday night crash at a busy intersection in Edinburg, authorities said.

According to the Edinburg Police Department, officers responded to the intersection of Salinas Street and W. Monte Cristo Road after receiving reports of a two-vehicle collision involving a truck.

Investigators determined that a westbound truck failed to stop at a red light and struck a vehicle traveling through the intersection.

Miranda, who was driving the vehicle, suffered severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Emergency crews treated four passengers in her vehicle, including her husband and their three young children. The husband was released after receiving treatment for non-life-threatening injuries. Two children, ages 5 and 9, were transported to a medical facility in San Antonio for further care. A 4-year-old girl was also treated and later released.

The truck driver, identified as 31-year-old Miguel Angel Suarez, is facing pending charges of intoxication manslaughter and multiple counts of intoxication assault.

The Edinburg Police Department continues to investigate the crash.

DUI ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

This crash was entirely preventable. Drivers under the influence pose a serious danger to everyone on the roadway and can cause devastating consequences.

“Drunken and drug-impaired motorists can face criminal charges when their actions lead to injury or death,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal.

She further explained, “In addition to criminal prosecution, families of victims may also pursue financial compensation through a civil lawsuit against those responsible.”

Data from the National Safety Council shows that 10 percent of all fatal car accidents are linked to drivers impaired by alcohol, drugs, or medications. These incidents rank as the second-leading cause of traffic-related deaths in the United States.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the outcome of the investigation, the family of Martha Miranda may be eligible to file a wrongful death claim. Loved ones of victims in such cases can seek compensation for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic accident.

“The emotional toll after losing a loved one in a crash can be overwhelming,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel with Bond Legal.

“We recognize the hardships families endure, and ensuring their rights are protected is essential. A wrongful death attorney can follow the investigation closely and help safeguard the family’s legal interests,” Formica added.
