Maria Sebastian Faces Citations After Sioux County Rollover Crash

SIOUX, IA, (July 13, 2026) – Six people were injured Monday afternoon after a Ford Explorer overturned in Sioux County, according to the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities said the crash occurred at approximately 4:09 p.m. on 390th Street, about three miles west of Sioux Center. Investigators determined that a 2017 Ford Explorer was traveling east when the driver lost control of the vehicle. The SUV entered the north ditch and rolled over.

All six occupants were transported to Sioux Center Health for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash. Officials have not released information regarding the severity of those injuries.

The driver was identified as Maria Martin Sebastian, 36, of Sioux Center. The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office cited Sebastian for operating a vehicle without a driver’s license, violating child restraint device laws, and failing to maintain control of the vehicle.

The circumstances leading to the rollover remain under investigation. Anyone with information regarding the incident is encouraged to contact the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office.

CRASH INVESTIGATION

Every year, millions of people suffer injuries in traffic crashes across the United States, many resulting in life-altering consequences. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, approximately 2.44 million people were injured in motor vehicle accidents nationwide in 2023.

As investigators continue working to determine the cause of the Sioux County crash and any potential liability, Candice Bond, an experienced accident attorney and Managing Partner of Bond Legal, emphasized the importance of conducting an independent investigation by an experienced legal professional.

“Along with the thorough efforts of law enforcement, an attorney can revisit witness statements, review any available surveillance footage from the crash scene, and obtain phone and texting records of the party responsible,” said Bond, a national analyst for Accident Injury News.

“Because evidence can quickly disappear, it is critical that the victim’s family ensures it is identified and preserved as soon as possible,” Bond added.

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

Pending the outcome of the investigation, those injured in the collision may have the right to pursue a personal injury lawsuit. Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal, explained that the emotional and financial strain following a serious crash can affect every aspect of a victim’s life, including family, employment, finances, and overall well-being.

“Retaining an attorney is an important step when pursuing a personal injury claim because legal counsel can negotiate directly with insurance companies on behalf of the injured client,” Formica said.

“Insurance providers frequently attempt to resolve claims quickly for amounts that are significantly lower than what victims may deserve. An attorney will strongly advocate for their client to help ensure fair treatment and appropriate compensation,” Formica added.
