SAN CLEMENTE, CA, (March 30, 2026) — A 53-year-old woman was tragically killed Monday morning in a crash involving a fleeing U-Haul van during a police pursuit in San Clemente.
Authorities identified the victim as Maria Ramirezahmad of Anaheim. According to investigators, she was driving a Mazda SUV when it was struck by the U-Haul near South Ola Vista and Avenida Granada at about 8 a.m.
Deputies reportedly attempted to stop the U-Haul, which had no license plates and was considered suspicious. The driver refused to comply and sped away, leading to the fatal collision.
The suspect, identified as 39-year-old Mathew Alexander Ronquillo of Cerritos, now faces multiple charges, including felony evasion, hit-and-run, gross vehicular manslaughter, and possession of a stolen vehicle.
