Margaret Ward dies after Dodge hits bus in Bee County on U.S. 59

BEEVILLE, TX, (May 01, 2026) — Margaret Ward, 58, of Conroe, was killed Friday afternoon in a multi-vehicle crash involving a transit bus in Bee County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).

Authorities said the crash occurred just before 5 p.m. along U.S. 59 near County Road 330.

Preliminary reports indicate that a 2020 Dodge Ram traveling northbound lost control on wet pavement, crossed into the southbound lanes, and collided with an Eldo bus operated by the Rural Economic Assistance League, Inc. The incident also forced a Nissan Altima off the roadway as its driver attempted to avoid the collision.

Ward, who was a passenger in the Dodge Ram, was pronounced dead at the scene. A 71-year-old woman from Mathis, who was riding on the bus, sustained fatal injuries and later died at Christus Spohn Hospital in Beeville.

The drivers of both the Dodge Ram and the bus, along with several bus passengers, were transported to area medical facilities for evaluation. The driver of the Nissan Altima was not injured.

DPS troopers believe that unsafe speed for the wet road conditions contributed to the crash. The investigation remains ongoing.

CRASH INVESTIGATION

Wet road conditions significantly raise the likelihood of accidents because rain decreases tire grip, increases stopping distances, and may lead to hydroplaning. Even a light rainfall can bring oil and debris to the surface, creating slick and hazardous driving conditions.

Motorists often underestimate how much they need to reduce speed or adjust their driving behavior, and minor errors—such as abrupt braking or oversteering—can quickly result in losing control of a vehicle.

“Roadway conditions, visibility, and lighting are all factors that may contribute to a crash and must be carefully evaluated,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner with Bond Legal.

“In some cases, accident reconstruction specialists are required to determine exactly how an incident occurred. These efforts are critical in helping victims or their families pursue compensation for losses following a crash,” Bond added.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the results of the investigation, the family of Margaret Ward may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim. Families of victims can seek compensation for loss of companionship, emotional distress, and pain and suffering resulting from a tragic accident.

“The grief and emotional burden after losing a loved one in a crash can be overwhelming,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal.

“We recognize the difficulties families face during such times, and protecting their legal rights is essential. A wrongful death attorney can monitor the investigation and help ensure that the family’s best interests are fully represented,” Formica added.
