Marco Mendoza-Ortiz dies in Pasco pickup truck accident, WSP reports

PASCO, WA, (April 30, 2026) – A 53-year-old man was killed Thursday morning in a head-on crash in Pasco, according to the Washington State Patrol (WSP).

Authorities identified the victim as Marco Mendoza-Ortiz.

Officials said the crash occurred at approximately 11:10 a.m. on the Lewis Street exit off Highway 395. Mendoza-Ortiz was driving a Ford Expedition when it was struck by a speeding pickup truck driven by a 32-year-old man.

The impact caused Mendoza-Ortiz to be ejected from his vehicle. He died as a result of his injuries at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation by WSP.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

Speeding poses a serious risk not only to the driver but also to passengers and others sharing the roadway.

In 2024, speeding contributed to 29% of all traffic fatalities. Excessive speed reduces a driver’s ability to react in time to avoid a collision. Regardless of police findings, Candice Bond, an experienced auto accident attorney, emphasized the importance of conducting an independent investigation to preserve evidence and protect the rights of the victim’s family.

“In addition to the diligent work of law enforcement, an attorney can re-interview key witnesses, review surveillance footage from the scene, and obtain phone and text records of the at-fault party,” said Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal and national analyst for Accident Injury News. “An attorney can also help guide families through this difficult time while ensuring their legal rights are protected.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

The family of Marco Mendoza-Ortiz may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim. In such cases, families may seek damages for loss of companionship, emotional suffering, pain and suffering, and other losses resulting from a fatal crash.

“We understand the profound difficulties families face in these situations, and protecting their rights is essential,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal. “A wrongful death attorney will monitor the official investigation and help ensure the family’s best interests are represented. Families may be entitled to compensation for emotional and financial losses following a tragic accident.”
