Manuel Hernandez Jr. killed in Bakersfield motorcycle crash

BAKERSFIELD, CA, (March 21, 2026) — A 39-year-old man was killed in a motorcycle crash Saturday on Highway 99 in Bakersfield, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

The Kern County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Manuel Hernandez Jr. of Shafter.

Authorities said Hernandez Jr. was riding a 2025 Kawasaki KX350 motorcycle northbound when a Chevrolet Tahoe crossed a solid white line near the Highway 58 on-ramp, causing a collision.

Hernandez Jr. was ejected from the motorcycle and subsequently struck by multiple vehicles. He died at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.

A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to support the victim’s family during this difficult time.

CRASH INVESTIGATION NEEDED

In 2023, motorcycle fatalities in the United States reached 6,335, accounting for 15% of all traffic deaths, according to NHTSA. With a fatality rate of 31.39 per 100 million miles traveled, improved safety awareness and driver education remain critical.

“Motorcyclists are among the most vulnerable on the road,” said Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal. “Even relatively minor collisions can lead to severe or fatal injuries.”

Bond, an experienced motorcycle accident attorney, emphasized that independent investigations are essential in cases like this to protect the rights of victims’ families.

“Blind spots, inexperienced drivers, and distracted motorists frequently contribute to these accidents. An attorney can serve as an advocate, helping guide families through the legal process while ensuring accountability when traffic laws are violated.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the family of Manuel Hernandez Jr. may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim. Families of wrongful death victims may seek compensation for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following such a tragic accident.

“The emotional toll after losing a loved one in an accident can be overwhelming,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal.

“We understand what families go through, and protecting their rights is vital. A wrongful death attorney will remain updated on the investigation and help ensure that their legal rights and best interests are protected.”
