WSP: Manfred Bahle Died After School Bus Strikes Car Near Graham

Graham, WA — June 11, 2026 — A 79-year-old man was fatally struck Thursday afternoon when a school bus collided with his vehicle near Graham, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The crash occurred at approximately 4:25 p.m. at the intersection of State Route 161 and Eustis Hunt Road. A 14-year-old student aboard the bus sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The Washington State Patrol is leading the investigation into the crash. No additional details regarding the cause of the collision have been released at this time.

Incident Location

FATAL SCHOOL BUS ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

WSP troopers are actively investigating the circumstances that led to the fatal crash.

Several factors are known to contribute to school bus accidents, including driver distraction, fatigue, mechanical failure, and human error. Inadequate experience or training can also play a significant role, as operating a large bus differs considerably from driving a standard passenger vehicle. According to National Safety Council tabulations of data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, school bus-related crashes killed 128 people nationwide in 2023, a 23% increase from 2022.

Candice Bond, an experienced commercial bus accident attorney, underscored the importance of launching an independent investigation alongside law enforcement to protect the rights of a victim’s grieving family in cases of this nature.

“Having the proper resources is extremely important to investigate a bus crash case and prove negligence,” said Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal and a national analyst with Accident Injury News. “Bus crashes can be complex, and companies often utilize large law firms to defend a negligent driver. An attorney can advocate for a victim by hiring expert witnesses, conducting drivers’ background checks, and locating witnesses to the crash while carefully guiding a client through the legal process.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

The family of Manfred Bahle may have legal grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim in connection with the fatal collision. Surviving relatives of wrongful death victims are entitled to seek damages covering loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident.

“We understand just what families are forced to go through, and having their rights protected is vital,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel with Bond Legal. “A wrongful death lawyer will stay updated on the official investigation and help ensure that their best interests are taken care of. Relatives of wrongful death victims are entitled to seek damages for the loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident.”

Families dealing with the sudden loss of a loved one in a crash involving a commercial or school bus are encouraged to consult with a qualified wrongful death attorney without delay to ensure critical evidence is preserved and their legal rights are fully protected throughout the investigation and claims process.
