WAIPAHU, HI, (April 21, 2026) – A pedestrian was critically injured Tuesday afternoon after being struck on a sidewalk in Waipahu, according to the Honolulu Police Department.
Authorities said the incident occurred around 3:15 p.m. when a northbound vehicle on Mokuola Street left the roadway near Waipahu Street and crashed into a tree. The vehicle then continued onto the sidewalk, where it struck a 32-year-old man walking northbound.
The victim was pinned beneath the vehicle and had to be extricated by the Honolulu Fire Department. He was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
The 22-year-old driver of the vehicle sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was also taken to a hospital.
The crash remains under investigation.
