Lynnea and Luke Soposki killed in Columbus I-71 pileup accident

COLUMBUS, OH, (April 11, 2026) – A multi-vehicle crash involving a semi-truck claimed the lives of a family of three Saturday evening in Columbus, authorities said.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, a 2006 Freightliner tractor-trailer traveling northbound on Interstate 71 failed to slow for stopped traffic in a construction zone near U.S. 36 at approximately 6:30 p.m. The truck struck multiple vehicles, triggering a chain-reaction crash involving nine vehicles, several of which caught fire.

Lynnea Soposki, 36, Luke Soposki, 37, and their 1-year-old son Logan, all of Ashley, were traveling in a Chevrolet Silverado and were killed in the collision. Three additional individuals sustained injuries.

The 50-year-old Columbus man driving the truck was arrested and charged with vehicular homicide. The crash remains under investigation.

CRASH INVESTIGATION

A fully loaded tractor-trailer can weigh as much as 80,000 pounds, and when such a vehicle collides with smaller passenger cars, the consequences are often catastrophic.

The National Safety Council estimates that roughly 150,000 people are injured annually in large truck crashes, with approximately 4,900 fatalities each year. These figures highlight the need for strict safety practices within the trucking industry.

Candice Bond, an experienced commercial accident attorney, emphasized the importance of conducting an independent investigation in such cases.

“Crashes involving commercial vehicles are often complex, with multiple contributing factors,” said Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal.

“A knowledgeable attorney can help protect victims from trucking companies, which often deploy their own investigators and resources to defend against liability. Legal counsel can engage expert witnesses, review driver history, locate witnesses, and examine insurance policies while guiding families through the legal process.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the family of Lynnea, Luke, and Logan Soposki may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim. Compensation may include damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following such a tragic loss.

“The emotional toll after losing loved ones in an accident can be overwhelming,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel at Bond Legal.

“We understand what families endure during such times, and protecting their rights is critical. A wrongful death attorney will monitor the investigation and help ensure that their legal interests are fully represented.”

“An attorney can also shield families from large insurance companies and their legal teams while carefully examining all aspects of the crash. Legal counsel will advocate vigorously to ensure that justice is pursued and rights are protected.”
