Lowellville crash kills passenger Shun Moreland, OSHP says

LOWELLVILLE, OH, (April 22, 2026) – A 53-year-old Struthers man died following a single-vehicle crash Wednesday night in Lowellville, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP).

Authorities said Shun Moreland was a passenger in a vehicle traveling eastbound when it lost control at approximately 9 p.m. in the 6400 block of McGuffey Road. The vehicle reportedly veered off the roadway and entered two separate culverts for reasons that remain under investigation.

Moreland was transported to a local hospital in critical condition, where he later died from his injuries.

Officials have not released additional details regarding the driver or possible contributing factors. The crash remains under active investigation by OSHP.

FATAL CRASH INVESTIGATION

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), a majority of single-vehicle crashes are linked to driver-related factors such as distraction, speeding, impairment, and overcorrection.

Roughly 53 percent of all fatal crashes in the United States involve a single vehicle. In addition to the work conducted by law enforcement, Candice Bond, an experienced auto accident attorney, emphasized that it is crucial to initiate an independent investigation promptly to preserve evidence and protect the rights of a victim’s family.

“Beyond the initial police findings, an attorney will thoroughly examine all possible contributing factors,” said Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal and a national analyst for Accident Injury News. “Legal counsel has the resources to engage expert witnesses, review driver histories, identify witnesses, and assess applicable insurance coverage. Serving as an advocate, an attorney can help guide a grieving family through this difficult process while safeguarding their legal rights.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

The family members of Shun Moreland may be eligible to pursue a wrongful death claim. Surviving relatives may seek compensation for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic accident.

Candice Bond, Managing Partner of Bond Legal, stated, “We understand the immense challenges families face after losing a loved one, and ensuring their rights are protected is essential.”

She added, “A wrongful death attorney will remain informed about the official investigation and work to ensure that the family’s best interests are represented. Families may pursue damages for loss of companionship, emotional distress, and other hardships resulting from such incidents.”
