APPLE VALLEY, CA — June 27, 2026 — A two-vehicle collision Saturday evening in Apple Valley claimed the life of a 33-year-old woman and sent three others to the hospital, including two young children, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department (SBCSO).
The crash occurred at approximately 8:20 p.m. at the intersection of Wichita Road and Zuni Road. Authorities said a 2022 Toyota Camry, traveling north on Wichita Road, failed to stop at a posted stop sign and struck a westbound 2021 Nissan Altima. The Toyota caught fire following the impact.
Lorena Lopez, 33, of Apple Valley, who was behind the wheel of the Nissan Altima, was pronounced dead at the scene. Two child passengers in her vehicle sustained injuries and were transported to area trauma centers for treatment. The driver of the Toyota was pulled from the burning vehicle and was also taken to a hospital.
The SBCSO Major Accident Investigative Team is conducting an ongoing investigation into the crash. Anyone with information regarding the incident is urged to contact the Apple Valley Police Department.
