Liam Tovar dies after Houston parking lot pedestrian crash

HOUSTON, TX, (April 24, 2026) – A one-year-old child was fatally struck by a vehicle Friday night in Houston, according to police.

Authorities said Liam Tovar was getting into a vehicle with family members at about 9:25 p.m. at 10225 Bissonnet Street when he was hit by a vehicle driven by a security guard patrolling the area.

Tovar was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries. Officials have not released additional details about the driver.

The incident remains under investigation.

FATAL PEDESTRIAN CRASH INVESTIGATION

According to the non-profit Kids and Car Safety, every week, 110 children are hit by vehicles in parking lots and driveways.

Even with modern safety features such as backup cameras, these types of incidents can occur due to driver distraction, blind spots, and congestion in parking areas. Approximately 13 percent of all parking lot crashes involve pedestrian fatalities.

While officials continue to investigate the cause and liability, Candice Bond, an experienced accident attorney and Managing Partner of Bond Legal, emphasized the importance of an independent investigation by a qualified attorney.

“In addition to the work conducted by law enforcement, an attorney can re-examine key witnesses, review any available surveillance footage, and obtain phone and texting records of the responsible party,” said Bond, a national analyst for Accident Injury News. “Time is critical in cases like this, and it is essential that the victim’s family ensures evidence is preserved and analyzed promptly.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the outcome of the investigation, the family of Liam Tovar may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim. Families of victims in such cases may seek compensation for loss of companionship, as well as pain and suffering and emotional distress following a tragic incident.

“The grief and emotional toll after losing a loved one in an accident can be overwhelming,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal. “We understand the challenges families face, and protecting their legal rights is essential. A wrongful death attorney can monitor the official investigation and help ensure the family’s best interests are represented.”
