Leanna Hood hurt in Alabama 216 crash near Tuscaloosa

TUSCALOOSA, AL, (April 18, 2026) – Leanna N. Hood, 19, was injured Saturday night in a single-vehicle crash in Tuscaloosa County that claimed the life of another passenger.

According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, the accident occurred at approximately 11:30 p.m. on Alabama 216, about five miles east of Tuscaloosa. A 35-year-old driver was operating a 2007 GMC Yukon when the vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree.

Hood, who was a passenger, was transported by EMS to DCH Regional Medical Center for treatment. A 36-year-old passenger sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and a 14-year-old passenger were also injured and taken to area hospitals.

Authorities continue to investigate the crash. No additional details regarding contributing factors have been released.

CRASH INVESTIGATION

Every year, millions are injured in U.S. traffic crashes—many with life-altering consequences. Approximately 2.44 million were injured in motor vehicle accidents in 2023 across the country, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

While the cause and liability of the crash are under review, Candice Bond, an experienced accident attorney and Managing Partner of Bond Legal, emphasized the importance of an independent investigation.

“In addition to the diligent work of law enforcement, an attorney can re-examine key witnesses, review any available surveillance footage, and obtain phone and texting records of the liable party,” said Bond, a national analyst for Accident Injury News.

“Time is critical in cases such as this, and the victim’s family must ensure that all evidence is evaluated promptly,” Bond added.

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

Pending the outcome of the investigation, Leanna Hood may have the right to pursue a personal injury lawsuit. Stefano Formica, Of Counsel with Bond Legal, noted that the stress following a serious injury can be overwhelming, affecting family, work, finances, and overall well-being.

“It is important for victims to retain an attorney when filing a personal injury claim, allowing proper negotiation with insurance companies on their behalf,” Formica said.

“Insurance companies often attempt to pressure victims into quick settlements for far less than a case may be worth. An attorney will strongly advocate for fair compensation and respectful treatment,” he added.
