Lauren Foster dies in Mecklenburg head-on crash on I-85

MECKLENBURG, NC, (March 28, 2026) – A Charlotte woman was killed early Saturday in a wrong-way crash on Interstate 85 in Mecklenburg County, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

Troopers said a white Jeep Grand Cherokee was traveling north in the southbound lanes at approximately 3:16 a.m. when it struck a black BMW head-on.

Lauren Shamariah Foster, 38, who was driving the BMW, was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in her vehicle declined medical treatment.

The driver of the Jeep was transported to CMC Main with injuries and has been charged with felony death by vehicle and additional unspecified charges. Authorities confirmed she was terminated from her position at the Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s Office. The investigation remains ongoing.

CRASH INVESTIGATION

“It is essential to determine the exact cause of these types of crashes. An attorney has the resources to examine insurance coverage, hire expert witnesses, conduct background checks, and identify witnesses. We help guide families through this difficult process,” said Candice Bond, a managing partner with Bond Legal.

She emphasized that in cases like this, an independent investigation is key to preserving evidence.

“In addition to reviewing the police report, an attorney will carefully analyze all contributing factors,” said Bond. “A lawyer has the ability to engage expert witnesses, review driver histories, locate witnesses, and examine insurance coverage. Acting as an advocate, an attorney can help guide victims and families through what can be a complex process.”

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the family of Lauren Foster may be entitled to a wrongful death claim. Family members of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident such as this.

“The stress and sorrow can be extremely overwhelming after losing a loved one in an accident,” said Stefano Formica, Of Counsel at Bond Legal.

“We understand what families are forced to go through, and protecting their rights is essential. A wrongful death attorney will remain updated on the official investigation and help ensure that their legal rights and best interests are protected,” added Formica.
