Lauren Carkeet tragically killed in Bienville Parish accident with tractor-trailer

BIENVILLE PARISH, La. — Local law enforcement is investigating a fatal two-vehicle accident on June 15 that killed a 32-year-old Texas woman on Interstate 20 near Louisiana Highway 154.

A 2010 GMC Acadia struck a parked tractor-trailer around 5 p.m. The 29-year-old male driver sustained minor injuries and was properly restrained at the time of impact.

Lauren Carkeet of Lewisville, Texas, was ejected from the GMC Acadia and pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger was not wearing a seatbelt when the SUV hit the tractor-trailer, authorities said.

The tractor-trailer driver was not injured in the accident. Officials have not released the trucker’s identity or details about why the truck was parked.

The GMC driver received treatment for minor injuries following the crash.

Authorities continue investigating what caused the SUV to strike the parked commercial vehicle.

CRASH INVESTIGATION

According to the Alabama Department of Transportation, the state consistently experiences traffic fatality rates nearly double the national average.

While the United States recorded 36,560 deaths in 2018—approximately 11 fatalities per 100,000 people and 1 death per 100 million miles traveled—Louisiana maintains significantly higher rates with approximately 21 fatalities per 100,000 people and 1.46 deaths per 100 million miles traveled in 2023, though this represents an improvement from the state’s peak of 1.78 deaths per 100 million miles traveled in 2021.

“Road conditions, visibility, and lighting are all possible contributing factors that are considered and must thoroughly be examined,” said Candice Bond, a Managing Partner with Bond Legal.

“An accident reconstruction team is sometimes needed to help piece together what happened. All of these resources are necessary for helping clients receive monetary compensation for damages or a loss following a collision,” said Bond.

WRONGFUL DEATH CLAIM

Pending the investigation, the family of Lauren Carkeet may be entitled to a wrongful death claim. Family members of wrongful death victims may seek damages for loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress following a tragic or catastrophic accident such as this.

“The stress and sorrow can be extremely overwhelming after losing a loved one in an accident,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal.

“We understand just what families are forced to go through, and having their rights protected is vital. A wrongful death lawyer will stay updated on the official investigation and help ensure that their legal rights and best interests are protected.”
