Larry Dix Hit by Vehicle on County Road 115, OSHP Says

Emerald Township, OH (January 07, 2026) – A Paulding man was seriously injured Wednesday evening after being struck by a vehicle in Emerald Township, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Preliminary information from the Van Wert Post of the OHSP indicated that 54-year-old Larry Dix was hit by a 2014 Nissan Murano at approximately 6:36 p.m. on County Road 115 near State Route 111. Dix was transported to Paulding Hospital and later airlifted to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne with life-threatening injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.

PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION

Pedestrian crashes such as this can be catastrophic and often involve severe injuries requiring extensive medical care and prolonged recovery. While all roadway users must remain alert, drivers bear a heightened responsibility to operate vehicles safely around pedestrians.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, an estimated 60,577 pedestrians were injured in traffic crashes in 2021, representing an 11-percent increase from 2020.

“Having adequate resources is critical when investigating a pedestrian accident and establishing negligence,” said Candice Bond, an experienced pedestrian accident attorney and Managing Partner with Bond Legal.

Bond emphasized that pedestrians generally have the right of way when crossing roadways, whether or not a marked crosswalk is present. “Drivers are required to yield to pedestrians in these situations,” she said.

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

Pending the results of the investigation, Larry Dix may have the right to pursue a personal injury claim.

“Injured individuals involved in collisions often seek personal injury claims to address medical expenses, future care needs, lost wages, emotional trauma, and pain and suffering,” said Stefano Formica, of counsel at Bond Legal.

Formica added that insurance companies are frequently unwilling to adequately account for the financial burdens faced by injured victims. He said an attorney can advocate on behalf of victims by holding insurers accountable and working to ensure that injured parties receive appropriate compensation.
