AIKEN, SC (April 14, 2026) – A 79-year-old man was killed in a hit-and-run crash Tuesday night in Aiken County.
According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, Larry Callahan was riding a moped along Colbert Bridge Road at approximately 9:30 p.m. when he was struck from behind by a vehicle.
Authorities said the driver fled the scene following the collision. Callahan was pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident remains under investigation as officials work to identify the driver involved.
The driver who struck Mr. Callahan and fled the scene will face criminal charges once apprehended.
Leaving the scene of an accident is a criminal offense, and statistics show that about 11 percent of all crashes involve hit-and-run drivers. Many offenders leave due to intoxication, lack of a valid license, or fear of legal consequences.
