Kynslee Mitchell hurt after vehicle strikes pole during pursuit in Lubbock

LUBBOCK, TX, (May 02, 2026) – A police pursuit in South Lubbock early Saturday morning ended in a crash that injured four teenagers, according to the Lubbock Police Department.

Officials said the incident began at approximately 12:18 a.m. when a vehicle fled from a traffic stop at 82nd Street and Frankford Avenue. The pursuit continued southbound until the vehicle went over a curb near 114th Street and struck a utility pole.

One passenger, 17-year-old Kynslee Mitchell, was transported to Covenant Medical Center for evaluation of non-life-threatening injuries. A 16-year-old male was taken to University Medical Center, while two other 17-year-old passengers were also injured.

The driver, identified as 17-year-old Xavier Alaniz, sustained minor injuries. Authorities said Alaniz was arrested and charged with three counts of aggravated assault, reckless driving, and evading arrest.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash. The investigation remains ongoing.

CRASH INVESTIGATION

Determining the exact cause of crashes like this is essential. Attorneys have the resources to review insurance coverage, hire expert witnesses, conduct background checks, and locate witnesses to build a clear understanding of what happened.

Candice Bond, Managing Partner at Bond Legal, emphasized that independent investigations should be conducted quickly to preserve evidence in cases such as this.

“Along with the official police report, an attorney will carefully evaluate all factors that may have contributed to the crash,” Bond said. “A lawyer can bring in expert witnesses, review driver histories, locate witnesses, and examine insurance coverage. Serving as an advocate, an attorney helps guide injured victims through what can be a complex process.”

PERSONAL INJURY CLAIM

Kynslee Mitchell may have the right to pursue a personal injury claim, pending the outcome of the investigation.

Stefano Formica, Of Counsel at Bond Legal, said, “Injured victims involved in collisions often pursue personal injury claims to recover costs such as medical expenses, future treatment, lost wages, emotional distress, and pain and suffering.

Insurance companies can often overlook the financial burden faced by injured victims. That is where legal representation becomes important. We work to protect victims and ensure insurance companies are held accountable,” he added.
