OSWEGO, Ill. – Oswego police are investigating a motorcycle crash involving a teenager and an elderly driver on Thursday.
The collision occurred at approximately 12:42 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. Route 34 and Orchard Road when an eastbound Honda CR-V attempted to turn left. A westbound Harley-Davidson motorcycle struck the front right passenger side of the Honda.
Kurob Mikkelson, 73, of Plano drove the Honda and attempted to turn left onto Orchard Road to travel northbound. Police cited him for failure to yield turning left following the crash.
A 19-year-old Yorkville motorcyclist sustained serious injuries in the collision. EMS initially transported him to Rush Copley Medical Center in Aurora before airlifting him to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood.
The teenager’s current condition remains unknown due to the severity of his injuries. Mikkelson was transported to a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
No other individuals were involved in the crash between the two vehicles. The Oswego Police Department requested assistance from the Illinois State Police Reconstruction Unit.
The reconstruction unit conducted a full crash investigation at the intersection.
