GOLDEN, CO (Mar 25, 2026) – A bicyclist was seriously injured Wednesday morning in a crash involving a vehicle in Golden, police reported.
Kristyn Wade was struck by a driver who allegedly ran a red light on U.S. Route 6 near Johnson Road just after 8 a.m. Wade had the right of way in the crosswalk at the time of the collision.
She was transported to a hospital and remains in critical condition. A GoFundMe campaign has been established to support her recovery.
Investigators suspect the driver may have been impaired at the time of the crash, and toxicology results are pending.
Bicyclists like Wade are protected under various laws, but as this case shows, they remain vulnerable on roadways. According to the CDC, more than 130,000 bicyclists are injured annually in crashes across the United States. These incidents often involve speeding, impaired driving, distraction, or failure to yield.
